ARTWORK

Over THE years my Artwork has changed considerably. I was originally trained as a Printed Textile designer where my use of colour and pattern was bold and highly decorative. You can see many examples of these designs in the Textile section. However at present my preference is to work in watercolours to produce portraits, landscapes and figure compositions. Composition is crucial and the subject matter is drawn from my own photographs taken in natural and city environments. These photographs can sometimes be taken into Photoshop where digital prints are then the outcome.

Plants in the landscape is always a popular theme with me.

Stylisation can work well when simplicity is required & colour becomes the

PRIORITY. Architecture can also BE USEFUL TO ADD depth and interest.

MANY OF THESE PAINTINGS HAVE BEEN OF MY FAMILY AT DIFFERENT STAGES OF

THEIR LIVEs IN A VARIETY OF PLACEs.

water colours allow me to work with varying opacities giving a sensitivity to the work. plus changing the format & size to develop the painting's impact.

This portrait below is of my younger daughter as a teenager.

The title "blue yonder" refers to her looking to her future ahead.

this is a large A2 painting giving me the opportunity to include layered plants

to surround her head and add depth.
